Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) is a specialist institution offering college and university level courses.

Issues such as environmental impact and sustainability have an effect on all our lives and are of importance whether you have ambitions to manage a golf course or a farm, run your own business or run the country. SRUC’s courses consider the innovative science that supports land-based and rural industries, the way they interact with and support the environment around them, and the businesses that rely on them – from agriculture and business to veterinary and zoonoses, and a huge variety of relevant topics in-between.
SRUC offers a choice of campus locations across Scotland and levels of study to suit all qualifications and ambition. SRUC provide specialist resources and access to first-rate and national facilities including the Scottish National Equestrian Centre and Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, along with industry-leading expertise, research and knowledge.
Equine Courses Available
BSc (Hons) Equine Science and Management
This course will equip graduates with the skills and knowledge to make an effective contribution to the equine industry. You will learn with the skills and knowledge to successfully establish and run a range of equine businesses, both in the UK and abroad. It will enable you to continue learning at postgraduate level, or to transfer skills and knowledge into a different future career path.
Graduates will manage the overall care of horses in a range of equine disciplines and settings such as nutritional advisors, yard managers, stud yards, the racing industry, welfare and animal/equine behaviour.
This course will emphasise the practical and theoretical knowledge and skills you'll need for many roles in equine industry.
You'll learn about nutrition, fitness, anatomy and physiology, as well as equine facility and yard management.
A mixture of theoretical and practical study also covers essential business skills, like IT, communication and teamwork.
Upon completion of this course, you could transition into the HND equine course for a further year of study, or choose to move into a variety of roles in the equine sector, such as working in training yards, studs, equipment supply companies, racecourses, livery yards, hospitality and more .
The course offers Riding or Non-Riding options at both campuses.

There's never been a better time to study and work in this field, as the equine industry is growing year on year. This two-year course offers the mix of practical and theoretical knowledge you need to take on a variety of roles.
You'll learn practical skills like yard, stable and grassland management. You'll also learn about riding and horsemanship, instructional techniques and of course about the horses themselves.
In addition to that, you'll gain more general business knowledge, including event management, supervisory and organisational skills and an introduction to marketing.
