Whether joining us from school or looking to change career, Hadlow College offers a huge range of courses covering: Agriculture (livestock, arable, fruit and vegetables), Horticulture (glasshouse production, fruit and vegetables, viticulture, greenkeeping and ornamental production), Gardening, Agricultural Engineering, Aquaculture & Fisheries Management, Equine, Animal Management, and Floristry, to suit the needs of many different students.

Our main campus is set in beautiful surroundings within a large managed estate including over 265 acres of prime arable land, woodland, natural river habitats, three commercial farms, established show gardens and horticultural glasshouses, lakes and other natural habitats.

Lying in the heart of the picturesque Kent countryside and yet within easy reach of central London and the coast, there really is no better place to study. Surrounded by farms and fields and on the edge of a pretty Kentish village, you won’t find a more charming place to spend your time.

Equine Management

This course consists of a range of subjects that enables students to achieve an excellent foundation in equine studies preparing them for employment in various fields within the Equine industry. The course offers students exceptional opportunity to gain hands on experience to develop their practical skills in horse husbandry, equine handling and understanding of equine biology and tack. Year two builds on the essential skills and knowledge developed in the first year of the qualification to embed higher level skills such as managing a yard, organising events and working with horses from the ground.

  • Equine Structure, Form and Function – Exam assessment
  • Equine Diet and Nutrition – Exam assessment
  • Work Experience in the Equine Sector
  • Equine Tack, Equipment and Rugs
  • Equine Business Management
  • Managing an Equine Event
  • Working Horses from the Ground
  • Managing an Equine Yard

Equine Studies

This course consists of a range of topics that enable students to achieve a good foundation in equine studies. Alongside development of your riding practice, this qualification will prepare you for employment in various fields within the Equine industry. The course offers you exceptional opportunity to gain hands on experience to develop your practical husbandry and riding skills. 

Typical lessons undertaken may include (subject to change):

  • Introduction to Equine Biology and Health – Exam assessment
  • Equine Work Placement
  • Equine Preparation and Plaiting
  • Equine Tack and Equipment
  • Principles of Working with Horses – Exam assessment

Equine Training and Management Foundation Degree

This is a University of Greenwich programme enabling students to gain a solid understanding of the equine industry in a vocational way. The programme is divided between the classroom, practical sessions, visits and lecture demonstrations. You will be given the necessary management skills for a career within the equine industry and, by the end of the programme, be particularly suited to work in the competition horse industry as either a coach, trainer, rider, stable manager, centre manager or events co-ordinator. Our assessment activities are designed to mimic real-life scenarios and as such include tasks designed to develop a skill set suited to 21st century professions in addition to academic knowledge and aptitude. These range from traditional written work and exams to presentations and practical demonstrations with the involvement of industry specialists.

Land Based Studies - Equine

This course is an ideal starting point if you have some practical experience of working with horses and wish to gain a basic understanding of horse care. The course will prepare you for employment in various fields within the Equine industry as well as support you with progression onto a Level 2 qualification. Through lessons and working on the College yard your understanding of horse care and welfare will be broadened, and you will learn how to correctly handle and look after a variety of horses.

  • Maintain the Health of Horses

  • Working with Others
  • Finding out About the Land-Based Sector
