Introduction

Become an employable and dynamic graduate with a degree that delivers a blend of equine science and business, along with agriculture-based subject matter.

Based in the Cotswolds, you are ideally positioned at the Royal Agricultural University to take full advantage of world-leading sporting venues, including Cheltenham Racecourse and Badminton Horse Trials. Due to our close links with equine enterprises, you can gain a first- hand appreciation of the business aspects and the day-to-day running of equestrian sporting events.

Gain transferable skills in science and business and complete an industry work placement to boost your employability. You will be equipped to progress to managerial positions in companies such as Dengie, bloodstock and equestrian accountants including Smith and Williamson and laboratories such as Plusvital Equinome.

You will be taught by a team of research- active and industry-linked staff with decades of teaching experience between them. Members of the equine team publish their work in internationally-renowned journals and we enjoy industry derived research sponsorship from companies such as Haygain Natural Animal Feeds.

Throughout your time with us, we will support and nurture your career aspirations in the global equine sector.

Equine and Bloodstock Course Options

BSc (Hons) Bloodstock and Equine Performance Management

Industry experience is at the heart of this degree with a work placement in your second year, and visits to leading racing businesses in Lambourn, Newmarket and Ireland. Our graduates have secured high profile positions in the racing industry, including organisations such as Godolphin, Juddmonte, The Jockey Club, Weatherbys and The National Trainers Federation, and you could join them. This specialist course compares science and business practices to those within the sports horse industry, and equips you with the skills to step into the professional world.

BSc (Hons) Equine Science and Business

Enhanced by our impressive knowledge base and extensive industry contacts, this course instils the scientific and entrepreneurial skills required to develop products and businesses within a broadening market place. After a generic year one, you will be able to tailor your learning to reflect a business or science emphasis, whilst gaining relevant vocational skills and industry contacts during your employment placement in the second year.

FdSc Equine Management

This exciting new course covers all of the required practical skills for the British Horse Society Level 3 Groom's qualification, embedded within a framework of equine science and business-based learning. You will build knowledge and skills in horse care and management to reach this level throughout the two years. Students with little or no previous experience with horses will be expected to commit to additional sessions to develop these practical skills in order to meet the required standard.

BSc (Hons) Equine Health and Welfare (Top Up)

This course enables students from Foundation Degree and HND backgrounds in Equine Science, Equine Business Management and related subject areas to develop their knowledge and understanding within a dynamic learning environment.
