Our expansive, award-winning equine facilities provide top-class training across all equestrian disciplines. We have a range of stabling to suit a variety of horses needs to include internal and external boxes and loose barns, along with a state-of-the-art Claydon horse walker and exerciser, wash bay and solarium. There are an additional two foaling boxes, a spacious feed room, an isolation barn, and veterinary stocks for examining and rehabilitation purposes. Out in our training arenas, you can find a large 40x60m outdoor school with mirrors and full show jump course. There is a 20x40m indoor school complete with lights, with extensive post and rail paddocks adjoining the arenas to allow for quick access between the two sites. Two alarmed tack rooms are used for storing industry-standard equipment. On site there are modern classrooms, computer rooms, reception and a farm cafe. New for 2025 will be a modern research laboratory.
Level 1 Landbased studies: Horse Care Level 1 - Abingdon & Witney College
This one year, full-time Level 1 course combines practical animal and countryside related experience on the Common Leys yard along with theory to cover the key areas of caring for a range of animals including horses. You will get to work with a range of horses and learn how to carry out daily husbandry tasks, carry out full health checks and how to improve horse welfare. Whilst developing your practical skills the course will also help you to develop other employability skills like safe working and working in a team.
Level 2 Technical Certificate in Horse Care: Horse Care Level 2 - Abingdon & Witney College
This is a one year full time course, supported by periods of developing practical skills on the college’s equine yard. All aspects of horse care are covered throughout the year with a mixture of practical and classroom sessions. The course is designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to work in the horse industry. Routine duties on the college yard are an integral part of the course and will give you a taste of what it is like to work full time with horses. Programme content includes; routine stable duties, horse handling and exercise, industry experience and horse feeding. As well as practical skills development such as grooming, plaiting, trimming and bandaging.
Level 3 Technical Certificate/Diploma/Extended Diploma in Horse Management: Horse Management Level 3 - Abingdon & Witney College
The Level 3 course in Horse Management provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue careers in competition yards, riding schools, the horse racing Industry and the breeding industry or within a wide range of ancillary industries. Students participate in practical sessions and formal lectures to develop principles and practices of horse management. The courses also prepare students to progress onto degree level study including the BSc(hons) Equine Science which the college runs in partnership with Oxford Brookes University.

BSc (Hons) in Equine Science (In partnership with Oxford Brookes University): Equine Science BSc (Hons) - Abingdon & Witney College
This degree gives you a thorough scientific understanding of the subject area, knowledge of the equine industry, and the scope to develop business and management skills.
