Riseholme College, based in Lincolnshire, has an outstanding reputation for the quality of its provision and has undergone a complete refurbishment of all its arenas and key facilities.
The college runs equine apprenticeships, further education and degree programmes covering all aspects of the industry and has an outstanding track record of student success. Riders of a high standard, or those who have the potential to succeed at a high level, are also given the opportunity to join our prestigious Equine Academy. Academy riders are provided with expert coaching and tuition to enable them to compete at a high level.
Students studying at Riseholme College have access to the outstanding facilities available at our Equine Centre, including;
Specialist equipment includes an interactive dressage simulator, and sports fitness, strength and flexibility tools, core stability testing and development apparatus, and laboratory-based equipment.
Riseholme’s Equine Centre hosts the British Eventing Horse Trials at Lincolnshire Showground each March. Equine students gain experience by working alongside the tutors and instructors at these events, developing the practical skills needed to work in the industry.
Degree Programmes
FdSc Applied Equine Management (Coaching)
This programme will enable students to develop capable practical equine management skills as well as provide sound academic knowledge to promote equine health and performance in both the commercial and competition setting. You will be able to tailor the focus of your degree through elective modules to studying either a coaching or therapy-based pathway.
BSc (Hons) Equine Health and Nutrition
This programme provides an in-depth specialist understanding of the wellbeing of the horse through study of the principles underpinning equine health and nutritional management. It seeks to provide a stimulating and challenging experience for students wishing to gain scientific knowledge alongside valuable laboratory practical experience to promote the health, welfare and optimise nutrition of the equine athlete.
Further Education Courses and Apprenticeships
Level 3 in Equine Management
This course provides core training for anyone wishing to develop an active career that includes riding, and teaching equine science and therapy, for example. Students gain practical applied experience for all units, including riding, teaching and caring for horses, science behind rehabilitation and performance.
Access to Higher Education Diploma in Land-Based Studies – Equine
Access to Higher Education courses are designed to prepare students aged 19+ for a degree programme. This course is for students with a passion for working with horses and develops the practical skills and knowledge needed to progress into Higher Education.
Level 3 Apprenticeship in Senior Equine Groom
As an apprentice, you will provide and co-ordinate the day-to-day care of horses at a senior level. You will lead by example and be able to implement effective systems of work. You will earn a wage and be released to study during your working week.
Level 2 Apprenticeship in Equine Groom
As an apprentice, you will work alongside experienced staff, gain job-specific skills, knowledge and behaviours within the equine industry. You will earn a wage and be released to study during your working week.
