The BRS is a Centre of Excellence for training in the horseracing world.  The aim of the BRS is to provide a range of training of the highest standard to meet the needs of the racing industry, and to meet the needs of our learners.

The BRS was established in 1983. It is owned by a Charitable Trust and therefore any income generated is re-invested back into the School.

The original aim of the School was to provide purpose built facilities to promote and encourage young people who had the potential to ride as professional jockeys.

Since then, the School has developed and flourished to its current position as the Centre of Excellence for training in the racing industry, providing a whole range of different courses and training.

Courses on offer:

Horseracing Industry Foundation Degree

The Horseracing Industry FdSc has been designed to help those within the industry broaden their horizons and open up opportunities to sustain a lifelong career in horseracing. It has been designed to allow you to complete it alongside your current work commitments.

Staff Management

The Staff Management course is suitable for anyone who currently supervises staff in a racing yard or stud farm. It covers many aspects of administration, leadership and management needed in the day to day running of a racing yard. This course does not teach practical horse care.

The Racing Industry Course

The Racing Industry Course provides a fascinating overview of all facets of the racing industry, from the history of the sport to promotion and its contribution to the British economy.

Whether you already work within horseracing or simply have a desire to learn about what goes into running and administering the multi-million pound industry then TRIC is the course for you. With an established reputation, TRIC attracts delegates from all over the world as well as a top-class line-up of speakers throughout the week.

Level 2 Diploma Apprenticeship in Racehorse Care

This course is for those aged between 16 and 22, and if you want to work full time in a racing yard it’s compulsory for those aged 16-18. It also falls in line with the government requirement to stay in education or training until you are 18. The course starts with a 12 or 18 week residential period where we teach you to ride and look after racehorses. Completion of this initial residential period leads to employment in a racing yard, where you will work towards your Level 2 Diploma Apprenticeship.  Courses start throughout the year and we run monthly open days.

Open Days will take place virtually via our Facebook Page so please follow us on there for more information facebook.com/brsnewmarket

The Racing Secretary Course

The course is run over three days, with speakers ranging from organisations such as The International Racing Bureau (IRB), The National Trainers Federation (NTF), The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and Weatherbys. An experienced and well established racing secretary will give a practical insight into fulfilling this demanding role, as well as sessions on Health & Safety and Payroll.
