Communications and Commercial Manager
Hurlingham Polo Association
Oxfordshire, hybrid working with expectation in office 2-3 days per week
Full time, 35 hours per week 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. Part-time considered especially during the winter
£40-45,000 dependent on experience + up to 10% pension contribution
28 days holiday per year plus bank holidays
The Hurlingham Polo Association is the governing body for polo in the UK, Ireland and many other countries throughout the world. The HPA is responsible for the regulations and rules under which the game is played. This includes the handicapping of anyone playing in the U.K. or Ireland, and the fixtures list. The HPA also promotes polo generally and provides support to the affiliated clubs in the UK and Ireland and overseas associations.
We are currently seeking a Communications and Commercial Manager to lead and deliver our work on communications and support the work on commercialisation of our organisation. The prime responsibility is to ensure effective communications within our networks, our clubs and members and building and protecting our reputation and that of polo to the wider public.
The ideal candidate will have undertaken a similar role previously, having worked as a communications professional, with experience of websites, press and broadcast media, sports marketing and having delivered commercial initiatives. They clearly need excellent communication skills and excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages (word, excel, outlook, teams etc). They will have an interest in sport and in particular polo. They will be used to working as part of a team and collaboratively. They should have a can-do attitude as we are a small team, and you never know what jobs come along!
The HPA office is a small friendly team based in a barn conversion near Faringdon in Oxfordshire, with free parking but not easily accessed by public transport. The office is very dog friendly and so you will need to be comfortable around dogs. You can bring your own well-behaved dog to the office.
This role is office-based 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday, although part-time may be considered especially during the winter. Some weekend working may be required during the outdoor polo season (May – Sept) but time off in lieu (TOIL) will be provided for each day or half day worked over a weekend. Additionally, some infrequent evening working may be required for meetings.
