HorseScotland is the national organisation for all equestrian sports and activity in Scotland and was founded in 1998.

HorseScotland is a partner of sportscotland (the national sports agency) and seeks to enable equestrian sport and the equestrian sector in Scotland to develop and excel through the highest levels of participation in the sport and the highest levels of growth for the country's equestrian industry.​

As our team develops, we have a current vacancy for an Education & Development Manager to join our dynamic team.

The main purpose of this role is to become an integral part of the HorseScotland team in the development, promotion and governance of all equestrian sport and activities in Scotland and work with all stakeholders to ensure that HorseScotland’s strategic plan is delivered.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Providing professional sports governance guidance and support in line with best practice

  • Promote horsescotland / assist in identifying new sources of income to ensure the future financial viability and growth of the organisation

  • To highlight any potential risks to the organisation. These could be related to compliance, people management issues, governance or financial controls.

  • To provide inspiration, vision and guidance to the colleagues, volunteers and the member bodies of horsescotland and create a positive culture

  • Operational delivery and implementation of the horsescotland strategic plan within set budgets and time frames including the production of reports 

  • Draft, implement and monitor short, medium and long term plans in conjunction with the CEO, Board and funding agencies.

  • Provide and support an environment where all member bodies within horsescotland are working effectively together

  • To continuously assist in reviewing existing management and administration systems

  • To ensure that communication systems both internal and external create an environment in which horsescotland can provide excellent member services

  • Assist in the development of annual operational plans to deliver the strategy of horsescotland with monitoring and reporting tools

  • Work with all stakeholders to improve the public’s knowledge of and perception of equestrianism

  • To represent horsescotland in all key forums as agreed with the CEO

  • To work with officials from sportscotland, Local and National Government, UK Sport to develop all equestrian activities in Scotland

  • Align annual key performance indicators to the objectives of Coaching Scotland and horsescotland’s Strategic & Operational Plan

  • Use sportscotland’s Coaching Scorecard to continually evaluate horsescotland’s coach education programme & drive quality improvement in coaching

  • Increase the quality and diversity of Equine coaches

  • Be the key contact for all relevant coaches within the equestrian sector

  • Be the lead for horsescotland  on sportscotland’s coaching network

  • Work with the pathway coordinator in the selection and delivery of horsescotland’s Performance Development Programme

  • Carry out any other task(s) as reasonably directed by the CEO/Board.

  • Collaborate in wider work undertaken by horsecotland as appropriate

  • Take part in Continuing Professional Development activities to enhance effectiveness as agreed with CEO

  • Becoming the lead as the organisations Safeguarding officer working with the board and CEO to deliver the horsescotland`s Safeguarding and Child welfare Protection responsibilities driving the Inclusion Framework standards

  • Becoming horsescotland`s Mental Health and wellbeing lead and representative in  delivering the SAMH Mental Health and Wellbeing Route map

  • Manage and lead the horsescotland team with directline reports e.g. membership liaison advisor and pathway coordinator

  • Safeguarding responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following proven track record of skills and experience to offer:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

  • Proven track record of operating within a multifunctional organisation

  • Dynamic and forward thinking

  • Proven capability for forward planning and budgetary control

  • Proven leadership and team work

  • Effective communicator at all levels

  • Self motivated, able to work towards the bigger picture

  • Has a full clean driving license

  • Flexible in their approach to working hours as required from the role

  • Able to work at and attend work related events across Scotland

  • A working knowledge of equestrianism

  • Understanding of the various and extensive stakeholders

This is a full time - permanent, homebased role. However candidates must reside in Scotland in order to service the role and travel within the area.
