The British Horse Society is the nation’s largest equine charity with a passion for horses that is backed by knowledge and expertise. The BHS represents and provides a range of services for horse riders, horse owners, enthusiasts and professionals.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who will support the breadth of our BHS campaigns and charitable objectives – Horse Care & Welfare, Safety, Access & Education.

This role will be responsible for the organisation, coordination and delivery of proactive events and activities throughout the UK with our education/event vehicles. It is a full-time position and includes frequent travel including, evening, weekend work and overnight stays across the UK but you will also need to live within a reasonable travelling distance to our HQ in Warwickshire.

So, you’re interested?

  • To organise, coordinate, manage attendance of our new education/event vehicles at a range of events and BHS activities.

  • Organise logistics of both vehicles through an effective booking system.

  • Drive the educational events vehicle (up to 3.5T) to some events as required.

  • Coordinate the relevant maintenance and legal requirements for the vehicles.

  • Ensuring the vehicles are kept in good condition and well maintained.

  • Ensure vehicles are equipped with appropriate stock and equipment to carry out event work.

  • Coordinate and motivate a team of specific event support staff/helpers/volunteers.

  • Identify and assess health and safety risks, undertaking risk assessments, adhering to health and safety protocols and event protocols.

  • Produce post-event reports containing information and data relating to impact and engagement.

  • Attend and support some events as needed, including those involving the vehicles such as Horse Health Days, Healthcare Clinics, Safety Road Shows, Ride Out UK Events, BRC Championships.

  • Engage and build relationships with a wide range of BHS Members, followers, and supporters.

  • Assist the Welfare Education Manager and Director of Welfare with any additional duties as and when required.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Full driving licence.

  • Exceptionally strong equine knowledge (equivalent to at least to BHS Stage 3 care) with a particular focus on the well-being of the horse and acceptable welfare standards.

  • Flexible approach to travel and working hours as role can include some overnight stays, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

  • Access to a vehicle suitable for business use, as travel to remote locations and locations inaccessible via public transport will be required.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise workloads.

  • Project management experience.

  • Ability to write reports and disseminate information to staff, volunteers, and members.

  • Excellent team-working skills.

  • Able to communicate with a wide range of audiences clearly and confidently verbally.

  • Excellent presentation skills and comfortable delivering talks to the public and external organisations.
