Looking for a General Manager for Bukit Timah Saddle Club in Singapore!

The Bukit Timah Saddle Club (BTSC) has a proud history as a leader in equestrian sports in Singapore for over 70 years. The Club has a riding school and livery operations with a capacity of up to 100 horses. BTSC is a British Horse Society (BHS) approved riding centre, livery centre, training centre, facility centre and examinations centre, and is the only BHS approved level 4 facility in South East Asia. The Club offers high quality facilities and regularly hosts FEI level competitions. We also offer a very high standard of instruction, with some of our coaches having represented their country in international dressage and show jumping competitions. 

We are looking for a General Manager (GM) for our Club. The GM is responsible for all aspects of Club life and operations; leads, and works in close cooperation with, the senior management team; leads the Club’s marketing and business development; and reports to the Management Committee. The ideal candidate is an experienced horse person with strong experience in the running and management of a stable yard, and ideally of an equestrian club. We are looking for a well-rounded individual who is organised, proactive, with good planning and team structuring skills , and who is great at working with people, including our staff, members, riders and external stakeholders. While riding and coaching experience is regarded as a plus, that is not the focus of this role. 

The main duties and responsibilities for the position are to: 

• Develop and implement the Club’s vision and business plans 
• Ensure professional management of the day-to-day Club activities and ongoing improvement of all aspects of BTSC’s operations 
• Be the face of BTSC for Club matters and ensure that the Club and its staff present the Club professionally and in the best possible light 
• Ensure high standards of horse welfare and care for riding-school and livery horses and maintain the Club’s BHS accreditation 
• Deliver high quality service to BTSC members and riders and take an active role in community development 
• Lead the Club’s marketing and business development activities 
• Demonstrate strong people management and stakeholder engagement skills 
• Take direct line-management responsibility for the Senior Management Team comprised of the Riding School Manager, Livery Manager, Estate Manager and Finance Manager 
• Manage, develop and provide guidance and feedback to all staff to ensure high performance, engagement and motivation 
• Oversee the relocation and establishment of the Club’s operations from its current site at Fairways Drive to its new site at Kranji 
• Ensure maintenance, safety and high-quality facilities at BTSC 
• Ensure profitability and ongoing financial sustainability of the Club and take responsibility for the Club’s budgeted expenditure (operational and capital) 
• Manage all Club communications to members and riders, staff and external parties 
• Take all reasonable steps to comply with all laws relating to the operations of the Club 

Essential Information

Minimum years of experience: 10 

Employment type: Permanent, Full Time 

Minimum qualification level: BHS Stage 3 or equivalent preferred, BHS certification (or that of any federation which, like BHS, places emphasis on stable management alongside riding and coaching) preferred, Higher education degree preferred 

Monthly salary range: SGD 9,000-15,000, dependent on level of qualification
