Training Officer

Closing Date for Applicants:
Friday 3rd July 2020

We are looking for a hard-working and motivated team player to join the Knowledge & Skills team at The Horse Trust. This role would suit a positive individual who has strong presenting and communication skills, is experienced in office and administrative duties, and has strong practical skills and experience with horses. Most importantly we are looking for someone who has a passion for learning and wants to develop their knowledge of equine behaviour and welfare.

As Training Officer you will produce and deliver training aimed at external organisations and individuals that are involved in equine welfare in the UK, and will assist in delivering bespoke training courses to a range of equine professionals, collaborating where necessary with other organisations. You will assist the Training Manager in all aspects of creating and delivering The Horse Trust’s internal training programmes, including developing training materials, devising lesson plans, and delivering training sessions. You will therefore be responsible for presenting classroom-based, online, and field-based training to a wide range of internal and external audiences, including the emergency services.  You may also have the opportunity to assist with implementing behavioural modification plans if required for our equine residents, along with practically applying this in their retraining. Our equine residents are always our main priority and therefore you may be required to help with yard work, equine admissions and assisting with other practical duties.

Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication and organisation skills, and be confident in presenting theory and practical content to a range of audiences. The successful candidate must have a Level 3 (or above) equine qualification or similar and must be able to demonstrate practical competence and experience in handling a variety of horses, in different settings. Knowledge of the practical application of equitation science (learning theory) is desirable, and candidates must be prepared to undertake training in this area. A recognised teaching and/or assessing qualification would be an advantage or, if not, you must be prepared to undertake this once in post.

The Horse Trust is committed to providing high quality, practical and experiential training that enables equine professionals to develop within their role.  The demand for our training and the audiences we are reaching is increasing, so this is an exciting time to join our small team as a Training Officer.  The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is happy to work autonomously on bespoke projects but is also keen to work in a team environment. The focus for the Training Officer is to continuously learn and further expand their skills and experience and we are looking forward to hearing from candidates that are effective communicators and presenters, who use innovative techniques to motivate and inspire learners, and who are passionate about equine behaviour.
