About us
The British Horse Society is the nation’s largest equine charity with a passion for horses that is backed by knowledge and expertise. The BHS represents and provides a range of services for horse riders, horse owners, enthusiasts and professionals. Our overarching welfare strategy is prevention through education. We don’t rescue – our role is to work with horse owners through proactive education, support and advice with an aim to prevent horses needing to be rescued.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a capable, experienced person to join our existing and growing team of Welfare Field Officers. This is a new role for the Midlands region and represents the first time that the BHS has employed a Welfare Field Officer within this area. We are looking for someone who has extensive equine knowledge as well as first class interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be an ambassador for The British Horse Society and actively promote our work and campaigns in the equine community providing advice and education in line with our policies, strategy and objectives.
The Role
You will attend welfare concerns reported to ourselves and carry out appropriate and lawful actions to prevent and relieve suffering to equines and collaborate with other welfare charities, organisations and agencies as appropriate. You will work very closely with our fabulous volunteer Welfare Advisers to support their work as well as recruiting and training new volunteers. You will be experienced in dealing with emotionally charged, challenging and distressing situations. You will be heavily involved with proactive welfare education within your region so you must be confident and experienced in organising events and delivering presentations. You will need to be a self-starter and able to work alone for the majority of the time.
The British Horse Society is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for our employees. We believe having a diverse team at all levels allows us to represent the communities we serve. We welcome applicants from all communities and as part of our commitment to being an inclusive employer we would particularly welcome applicants of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage. We also particularly welcome applications from disabled people and people from LGBT+ Communities.
If you would like to become part of our charity, to apply please provide a covering letter (including your salary expectations) and CV, highlighting relevant skills and experience and send along to jobs@bhs.org.uk.
